York Disabled Workers Co-operative
Your Young Co-operative could support a workers co-operative run by disabled workers for disabled workers, and based on the principles of equality and diversity, which has been set up following the closure of Remploy York, an organisation which helped disabled people find work.
The GMB and Remploy Trade Union Consortium are launching the workers co-operative, which will produce garden furniture and wooden pet houses made from recycled/reclaimed timber and materials. If it is successful, it is hoped that every town and city in the country could have its own disabled workers co-operative.
Any financial help would be grateful received, as £56,000 is needed to set up the scheme, as well as donations of good quality IT equipment, computers, laptops, hardware and printers, office furniture such as desks, old furniture, old timber and volunteers to help.
Cheques should be made payable to “York Disabled Workers Co-operative Ltd” and sent c/o Phil Davies to GMB National Secretary, GMB National Office, 22/24 Worple Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 4DD.
