The Glasgow Academy

The Glasgow Academy

The Glasgow Academy has been awarded Fairtrade School status by the Fairtrade Foundation in recognition of the work it does to promote fair trade and trade justice in the school and wider community.

The assessors were particularly impressed by the way trade justice has "been systematically and thoroughly integrated into the school's curriculum": they felt it was "good to see Fairtrade being critically examined alongside other trade issues in such a sophisticated way at school level". The work of the school's Young Co-operative group was described as "impressive".

Rhian Dawes and Sadia Ashraf, co-chairs of the Glasgow Academy Fairtrade group, said: "We are pleased to have achieved this prestigious award for the school. We would like to thank everyone involved – pupils, staff and parents – who helped make this possible."

The Fairtrade group will need to continue to work hard throughout the year to ensure that The Glasgow Academy maintains its status as a Fairtrade School.
